Help for WinZip users
If you have been using WinZip in the past, you will see that Alpha ZIP has a very
different approach, and it might take some time to get used to this. Once you
are used to the Alpha ZIP approach, you fill find it much more natural.
Folder structure
In WinZip, all files are shown in one big list, and the path is in a separate
column.
In Alpha ZIP, you have to navigate a folder structure. You will only see the
files and folders at the top level of the archive. To see files and folders
at a deeper level you have to navigate to the subfolders by double-clicking
on them.
Favorites
In WinZip, you have Favorites in the toolbar. Alpha ZIP does not have it's own
favorites. The favorites are integrated with the Internet Explorer favorites.
In your Internet Explorer favorites, you may want to create a folder Alpha ZIP
and add your Alpha ZIP favorites to this folder.
View
In WinZip you can choose the viewer for a file type. In Alpha ZIP, files are
always opened in the associated application.
Editing files
Once you are used to the Alpha ZIP way of working with ZIP files, you will enjoy
greater flexibility.
In WinZip, the only editing capability is adding and removing files. You usually
need to have the whole structure on your hard disk before creating an archive,
and once the archive is created, you almost don't change it anymore.
In contrast, when using Alpha ZIP, you will make more changes to the archives
after creating them. You will rename files, create new subfolders, move files
to different folders. You can use Copy/Paste or Drag and Drop to move files.
You can just click on the name of the selected file to rename it. To create
subfolders, you just select New Folder from the File menu.
